Study Abroad

As a student or alumni of Aveda Institute Denver you'll be eligible to attend our study abroad opportunity. Each year we pick a new city to visit and work with industry masters while being exposed to culture and global salon and spa techniques. We've visited London, Berlin, Madrid and Tokyo with future plans to follow the Aveda timeline back to India and South America. Here's a look at what we've learned abroad.

Tokyo:

Tokyo is the largest city in Japan with over 12 million people residing in the bustling and modern city. We explored Japan's salon/spa culture to discover Aveda's up-and-coming popularity. Popular services in Japan include perming and hair spa (20 minute relaxing shampoo experience). Products like Smooth Infusion and the Brilliant line are favorable among the Japanese. Aveda Institute Denver and Tucson future professionals were guided by Global Purefessional, Mat Slater and learned cutting techniques and makeup in Japan.

Mat Slater
Global Purefessional - Haircutting

As a part of the Aveda Network since 1984, Mat Slater has dedicated himself not only to education, but also to the importance of education in the salon. His first years of teaching began in 1989, and his experience has since grown to presently facilitating in over 50 events a year, which include in-salon workshops, Master Jams, Congress, and a new Master Class at the Aveda Institute/Mineapolis.

Mat has represented the Aveda Global Purfessional Team on both Congress and Master Jam stages. His experience at teaching has earned him return after return engagement- ensuring the class participants an "informative, motivating, and fun "class experience. His Master Class has sold out in a matter of hours...the response from his classes and his recognition by the Aveda Network earned him the Aveda Educator of the Year Award in 2002.
