Memo for Record—Amendment to the Saturday policy

Effective January 1, 2008, the Saturday policy will be amended to a fee-based penalty for future professionals missing more than the allowed Saturday hours. Currently, cosmetology students can miss three Saturdays (24 hours) total and full-time Esthiology students can miss two Saturdays (16 hours). Upon missing more than the allowed amount of time, the penalty will be $500 for every missed Saturday. A future professionals that has been charged with the penalty for violating the Saturday policy will have 60 days to make payment and the record of completion and diploma will not be released until all tuition and fees are paid in-full. Future professionals must still meet the minimum requirements for academics (80%) and attendance (88%) to pass a phase. Future professionals are allowed three tardies per phase and are subject to suspension and possible termination for exceeding the above standards.

Memo for Record—Amendment to the Enrollment Agreement; Satisfactory Requirements for Graduation

Effective October 20, 2007 a new policy will take affect in regards to the minimum requirements for passing a phase and graduation.

Currently the Enrollment Agreement states:

“a future professional must meet 88% attendance in order to pass a phase. If a student fails his/her phase he/she will need to retake the phase and pay additional monies for the complete phase.”

Recently the education director, student services and the classroom cosmetology team lead met to discuss the current policy to determine if it is a true measure of an FP’s competency and if the policy benefits the FP’s education. It has been decided that the policy should better measure an FP’s competency and create a plan of action for success should an FP fail the phase.

The new policy is:

“students must meet minimum 80% academics and 88% attendance in order to pass a phase. If a student fails the phase, he/she may need to repeat the phase and pay additional monies for completion of the phase. The board will determine whether or not the FP will need to retake the phase. This will be determined based on competency. If the FP fails due to low attendance but is allowed to move on to the next phase, the FP will need to extend his/her contract the exact amount of days to get the FP to the 88% standard and pay $80 per day.”

Steps:

If an FP fails due to low attendance but passes academics or if an FP fails due to low academics but passes attendance:

  1. the board will meet to decide whether or not the FP is competent to move on to the next phase
  2. if the board grants the FP permission to move on to the next phase, the FP will be placed on probation during the next phase. The FP will then need to meet a 90% standard in attendance and academics during the probation period. If the FP fails the phase, the FP may be terminated or required to extend his/her contract in order to achieve minimum course requirements for graduation.

If an FP fails attendance and academics the FP will automatically repeat the phase.
